Jean Tottie, Founding Director and Chair
My role as Chair of the Life Story Network CiC (LSN) is to work with the Executive Team to ensure that we deliver our commitments and strive to grow the organisation on a firm foundation. I particularly focus on the ambassadorial role representing LSN and tide and making connections at a UK wide and regional level. I co-founded Life Story Network, after a 35 year career in health and social care, after seeing the benefits of life story work for my late father. I am currently a member of the Board of the National Dementia Action Alliance, Public Health England Dementia Governance Board, Dementia Expert Reference Group for Achieving Better Access to Mental Health Services (NHSE and NICE), Royal College of Nursing Nursing Advisory Group, a member of the Programme Board for ‘Effective Home Support in Dementia Care’ with University of Manchester, and a member of the Steering Group for the Evaluation of Specialist Nursing Support for carers of People with Dementia.
Ruth Eley, Founding Director
I am a Founder-Director and the Vice-Chair of Life Story Network. As the vice-chair of the Board, I support the Chair in ensuring that we fulfil our obligations as a social enterprise. I take a lead role in financial matters and assist with project management. I was inspired to help create LSN when I heard Ken Holt talking at a conference workshop about the life story he had written for his wife, who had dementia and lived in a care home. He told participants that he thought we needed a national network to spread the word about life story work across the country. Working in the Department of Health at the time, I was able to help bring some like-minded people together to work out how to realise Ken’s vision. I recently co-edited a book with Polly Kaiser about using life story work with people with dementia. It uses an evidence-based approach to explain the benefits of life story work, and how it can be used in different settings. I am currently Chair of the Liverpool Dementia Action Alliance, and the Liverpool Dementia Action Alliance Transport Group.
